The advantages of drip irrigation are:

  2. Water application efficiency is high if managed correctly.
  3. Field leveling is not necessary.
  4. Farmers can easily accommodate fields with irregular shapes.

  6. Moisture within the root zone can be maintained at field capacity.
  7. Soil type plays a less important role in the frequency of irrigation.
  8. Soil erosion and weed growth decreases.
  9. Water distribution is highly uniform, controlled by the output of each nozzle.
  10. Labor cost is less than other irrigation methods and that can be great for farmers.
  11. Farmer can regulate variation in supply by regulating the valves and drippers.
  12. Farmers can include fertigation easily with minimal waste of fertilizers.
  13. Foliage remains dry, reducing the risk of disease.
  14. Usually operated at lower pressure than other types of pressurized irrigation and also reduces energy costs.

The disadvantages of drip irrigation are:

  1.  Initial cost can be more than overhead systems.
  2. The sun can affect the tubes used for such irrigation, shortening their lifespan.
  3. In case of low maintenance and it can result in clogging or biologging.
